You live in a different world to me.

Pixar Lied

Clownfish live in small groups inhabiting a single anemone.

The group consists of a breeding pair, which cohabit with a few non-reproductive, "pre-pubescent", and smaller male clownfish.

When the female dies, the dominant male changes sex and becomes the female.

This life history strategy is known as sequential hermaphroditism. Because clownfish are all born as males, they are protandrous hermaphrodites (pro=first; androus=male).

This is in contrast with another form of hermaphroditism, known as protogyny, in which all fish are born as females but can change to males later.

Don't make the Buck stop here!

Buck Rogers is having a little trouble finding a home where he fits in because he does not get along with other dogs. Mostly, he just wants them to leave him alone, but he can be rather pro-active about this by lunging at dogs and nipping them if they get too close. Because of this, he needs an experienced owner that will notice when he is uncomfortable. Cattledog Dreams will include 6 free private training sessions to help his new owner understand how to work with him. Other than this one issue, Buck is a dream to live with and a very loving companion.

In fact, Buck would be perfect for a person that wants a running or biking buddy. Though Buck will need to be kept on leash during these activities, he is very good on leash and loves to be on the go. He also LOVES people of all sizes, shapes and forms, and is happy to greet them in his house like they are long lost friends. He is also very responsive to basic commands, house-trained, crate trained and does not chew or destroy anything when left alone.

Like most Cattle Dogs, Buck can go zero to sixty in two seconds when there is something to do, but is also happy to lay at your feet while you work on the computer or watch TV. His fur is as soft as silk, and there is nothing he likes better than a good hug and pet. Buck will be a Dream Dog with the right person. Please let your friends know about him!

If you or someone you know (in the SF Bay Area, Marin County, etc) would like to meet Mr Rogers send me an email to jennifer@cattledogdreams.com

Thanks ^_^

Defenestration

Sadly a jury has sided with the San Francisco Redevelopment Agency in its eminent domain suit against the owners of the Hugo Hotel. They plan to build 'affordable housing' there. Affordable for who exactly?

A building owners association guy says: "Finally. No responsible property owner is going to let their building become a blight on the neighborhood, and — I'm sorry to say it — that's exactly what [the Hugo] was." --- Utter bullshit IMO. Many people came to the neighborhood for the main purpose to see this building.

I think it's a sad loss.

DEFENESTRATION
1997-present

(Site-specific installation on the corner of 6th and Howard St. in San Francisco)

This multi-disciplinary sculptural mural involves seemingly animated furniture; tables, chairs, lamps, grandfather clocks, a refrigerator, and couches, their bodies bent like centipedes, fastened to the walls and window-sills, their insect-like legs seeming to grasp the surfaces. Against society's expectations, these everyday objects flood out of windows like escapees, out onto available ledges, up and down the walls, onto the fire escapes and off the roof. "DEFENESTRATION" was created with the help of over 100 volunteers.

The concept of "DEFENESTRATION", a word literally meaning "to throw out of a window," is embodied by the both the site and staging of this installation. Located at the corner of Sixth and Howard Streets in San Francisco in an abandoned four-story tenement building, the site is part of a neighborhood that historically has faced economic challenge and has often endured the stigma of skid row status. Reflecting the harsh experience of many members of the community, the furniture is also of the streets, cast-off and unappreciated. The simple, unpretentious beauty and humanity of these downtrodden objects is reawakened through the action of the piece. The act of "throwing out" becomes an uplifting gesture of release, inviting reflection on the spirit of the people we live with, the objects we encounter, and the places in which we live.

See in a new way

See in a new way the people around you just by paying attention. Listen to their eyes, the small wrinkles in the corners, the tiniest twitch of a muscle. So much hidden meaning in something so obvious and in the open, yet almost never noticed by strangers or even loved ones.

Looking closer to see the world in a new way. The patterns, the colours, the other universe inside your own.

Life isn’t just about the big picture, it’s in the details.

This is your brain on drugs.

I've seen a lot of weird shit on drugs. I have never ever ever ever EVER looked at a fucking egg and thought it was a brain. Not once!

I have seen UFO's split the sky like a sheet but I have never ever ever EVER looked at a egg and thought it was a fucking brain. Not once!

I've had seven balls of light come off from a UFO, lead me onto their ship, explain to me telepathically that we are all one and that there's no such thing as death but I have never ever ever EVER looked at a egg and thought it was a fucking brain.

Pride at the Civic Centre

Welcome to Pride Weekend. The high temperatures did not deter anyone from not celebrating the right for equality. Hundreds of people were out and about at the Civic Centre, having a blast like just San Franciscans can. Music and dancing, drinking and loving. :)

Patience is a virtue

Everyone, meet Harley.

Harley, meet everyone.

He's 3 years, 2 month old domestic shorthair/mix. He weighs about 6.5kg.

We adopted Harley yesterday from the San Francisco SPCA. He's a sweet and shy boy that is going to take some time to adjust to his new surroundings.

We got him home and put him in a 'safe' spot in the bathroom, but he promptly escaped and got underneath the bed. Getting him out was a pain and a half and it felt like I nearly dislocated my hip, then he managed to get underneath the bed again. When we finally got him out from underneath the bed (the bed is really heavy by the way) we put him in the bathroom.

A certain someone (names shall not be named) thought that my idea to have a chair in front of the door to keep it closed was stupid so he just tied the handles together with a piece of string. /facepalm

Guess what. It didn't work! I woke up expecting to find Harley safely in the bathroom, ready to take him breakfast when lo and behold...the bathroom door was open and he wasn't inside there. So it was another hassle to get him out from underneath the bed.

Hopefully that won't be necessary ever again.

Anyway, feel free to bask in the glory that is his cuteness :)

Rescue | Recycle | Renew

Today the SFSPCA had an adoption fair where various rescue organizations came together to help find some of their rescue animals loving homes or temporary foster care. It also educated on recycling and a 'second chance sale" of new or gently used pet toys, supplies and bric-a-brac.

King Pidgeons, rescued from animal shelters throughout the Bay Area, make great pets. They're sweet, smart, calm & full of personality but, because people aren't aware of them, they often can't find good homes. Kings are domestic pigeons bred to be eaten as "squab" but some escape or are set free. Kings can't survive in the wild and the lucky ones end up in shelters but they are at high risk of euthanasia if not adopted into permanent homes.

For more info visit Mickaboo Companion Bird Rescue.

To adopt a King Pigeon, contact Elizabeth at AdoptKings@gmail.com

Dash the chinchilla was surrendered for euthanasia because of a broken hind leg that needed surgery. Luckily he was saved and gets along fantastically with three legs. Dash is about 1 year old.
He's hoping to find a loving forever home soon.

California Chinchillas is a non-profit organization devoted to educating the public about chinchilla care and chinchilla rescue. Many chinchillas are being lost abandoned or turned in by owners no longer wanting or able to care for them. Some rescued chinchillas are growing babies, elderly chinchillas, pregnant, sick and injured chinchillas need extra special care and love. We take care of their physical and emotion needs so that they may find happy, loving homes.

Save a bunny. Rescue, foster, education and adoption center for rabbits in the San Francisco Bay area. Spayed and neutered rabbits available for adoption to indoor homes.

Companion rabbits are the third most frequently euthanized animals at shelters, behind cats and dogs. While many shelter rabbits come from feed stores, flea markets, or laboratories, in reality, most rabbits facing euthanasia were once family companions or classroom pets who were bought at pet stores or breeders and surrendered to shelters when the novelty wore off or at the conclusion of a school year. Many people mistakenly assume that rabbits are low-maintenance or good starter pets for children, rather than physically fragile, yet spirited and opinionated animals who require specialized care and several hours of attention and exercise each day.
Phoenix - This brave & loving bunny was tortured and set on fire. He came to SaveABunny for treatment of his physical & emotional wounds. He is now healed and happy!

SaveABunny is often the only resource for rabbits facing euthanasia at shelters. These rabbits include highly adoptable rabbits who have “run out of time,” those deemed “unadoptable” because they have health or behavioral issues, and special-needs rabbits requiring surgery or specialized medical attention resulting from trauma, neglect, or abuse. Once a rabbit enters SaveABunny, he or she will never “run out of time” and will always have a home as a foster until adopted.

Muttville's mission is to help senior dogs through foster, education, and rescue. Because every dog needs a happy ending.

Rocket Dog Rescue was there as well. Rocket Dog Rescue is a San Francisco Bay Area dog rescue organization run by a group of dedicated volunteers. They save dogs from death at over-crowded shelters and find them loving, happy homes. Now into their sixth year, RDR is stronger than ever, and have saved the lives of over 1,900 animals! Their motto: "Leave no dog behind".

The Golden State Greyhound Adoption is an all-volunteer nonprofit organization that places retired racing greyhounds in adoptive homes in Northern California, including the San Francisco Bay Area, greater Sacramento area and beyond. Their ex-racing greyhounds come primarily from Colorado racetracks, although they also help rescue dogs from Arizona and Mexico. When racing greyhounds are deemed no longer profitable–either because they aren’t winners or have sustai ned an injury–kennels often try to adopt out these dogs, but sadly, many are destroyed, often before they reach the age of four or five.

Please support organizations like these, donations are tax deductible and you'll make a lasting difference in one of these wonderful animals life.
